Terms & Conditions

The author agrees that submission of documents confirms acceptance of The Scientific Editing Company Limited's terms and conditions. Authors are solely responsible to abiding by copyright laws. We reserve the right to reject acceptance of any projects containing material we may consider to be illegal. We will at all times endeavour to provide a full service, but cannot accept liability for failure to supply these services when caused by any external influence (i.e., causes beyond our control.) We reserve the right to refuse documents and to change turnaround times due to illegibility or poor quality provided to us. By accepting our services, the author is deemed to have accepted these Terms and Conditions.

We reserve the right to change these Terms and Conditions, and any other terms and conditions contained elsewhere on the Website, at any time. If the author does not agree to any changes that we have made, they should stop using our Website and our services immediately.

Editing

  1. We undertake to ensure that no manuscript edited by a member of The Scientific Editing Company's staff will be rejected by a journal editor or reviewer, or by a book reviewer, on the grounds of deficiencies in English language.
  2. If authors have special requirements with respect to English, these must be specified in advance. If they are not specified in advance, The Scientific Editing Company will take no responsibility for satisfying them and revising the manuscript in order to satisfy them will incur an additional fee at the standard rates.
  3. If authors have special requirements with respect to English, satisfying them may be charged at a rate greater than The Scientific Editing Company's standard rates, depending on the precise nature of the special requirements.
  4. If a manuscript that has been edited by a member of The Scientific Editing Company's staff should be rejected on the grounds of deficiencies in English language, The Scientific Editing Company undertakes to remove the deficiencies free of charge, provided that (a) The Scientific Editing Company has access to reviewers' comments and (b) reviewers' comments specify, in appropriate detail, the ways in which the manuscript is deficient with respect to English language.
  5. Upon receipt of a revised version of a manuscript, the author should go through the manuscript carefully to address all changes, suggestions, and comments. If the author does any of the following, the author should return the manuscript to The Scientific Editing Company for checking after the author has finished revising:
    1. Choose not to accept changes;
    2. Change our corrected text;
    3. Introduce new text.
    When authors return their manuscript to The Scientific Editing Company for checking, they should highlight in yellow (using the Text Highlight function in MS Word) any new text and any text where they did not accept The Scientific Editing Company's changes or changed the Scientific Editing Company's corrected text. This checking will incur a fee that is appropriate to the amount of work involved (sometimes nothing, sometimes calculated on the basis of the standard rate). However, it is very important. Sometimes, papers are rejected on the grounds of poor English because authors changed the revised version that we returned to them.
  6. The Scientific Editing Company takes no responsibility for any submitted manuscript that contains changes made by the client following the completion of editing without prior consultation with a Scientific Editing Company editor.
  7. The Scientific Editing Company will edit theses or dissertations that are to be submitted for a degree, e.g., for an MSc or PhD. The content of the work and adherence to the university regulations is the sole responsibility of the author. The Scientific Editing Company takes no responsibility for the content of the work or compliance with university regulations.

For a manuscript that has already been submitted to a journal and has reviewers' comments available, The Scientific Editing Company undertakes to rectify those deficiencies in the manuscript that have been identified by the reviewers and that pertain specifically to logic and the flow of argument.
